Edwards – Trombone Tenor T396-A Joseph Alessi Model

When Joseph Alessi is not playing in the back row of Lincoln Center, he can be found performing solos in front of orchestras and in recitals. His music versatility requires an instrument that will meet his needs. The T396-A meets those needs, and then some. First and foremost, Mr. Alessi is a principal orchestral player. His instrument must crown the low brass section while blending with the orchestra. This balance was of the utmost importance when designing his signature trombone. But we also could not ignore Mr. Alessi's considerable solo capabilities. So we set out to provide Mr. Alessi with a horn that gave him the correct timbre and feel no matter the musical setting. This is more difficult than it sounds. A lot of timbre comes with having an instrument that is tonally flexible without becoming unstable in different registers. We feel we achieved our goals due to the fact that the T396-A is the first "acoustically-tunable" fixed instrument. We are excited to make an instrument available that is as unique as each and every one of our customers.

Griego – Bass Model 0.25 Deco Gold

The Griego .25 is the largest bass mouthpiece we make. Although we can honestly say that this model has great response and an even sound in all registers, in reality this mouthpiece is for professionals that have a consistent practice schedule and are used to playing very large equipment. If a person is lacking in air support and embouchure development, the .25 will not be very forgiving. Cup Diameter: 1.157" or 29.4 mm, Throat: .318". The Deco blank is heavier in mass than the NY blank. The added weight is great for large bass trombone mouthpieces that may have thinner walls due to larger inner cup diameters. It is very free blowing and can provide a bigger, darker sound than mouthpieces with less weight. The Deco also provides stability, which can help define partials on those trombones where extra focus is needed. The NY blank weighs slightly more than modern day Bach mouthpieces (Elkhart blanks). Its weight is distributed evenly around the bottom of the cup. This results in an even core of sound with overlapping overtones, creating a tone quality that is thicker than conventional mouthpieces. The NY also provides the midrange overtones that are often lost with other mouthpieces. Our newest mouthpiece blank, the Nouveau was created to give trombonists the flexibility a lighter mouthpiece can provide. It provides a width of sound and wider partial feel for a natural playing experience. Every tone and timbre can be manipulated, making the Nouveau a very expressive mouthpiece.
